Spectral type M7.5e. L = 0.031 LSol. Member of Taurus-Auriga star-forming region. Age 1-2 Myr.
Joncour et al. (2017) deem KPNO-Tau 5 to be gravitationally bound to DI-DH Tau multiple system 18,180 AUs away. KPNO-Tau 5 would hence be a circumternary brown dwarf orbiting both the DI Tau AB pair and the tertiary star DH Tau (hereby regarded as “DI Tau C”).

Tang et al. (2023): young binary composed of a 0.82 ± 0.32 MSol primary and a 0.14-0.04+0.07 MSol secondary tracing a highly eccentric orbit (a = 10.6-0.2+5.5 AUs, e = 0.734-0.026+0.128, i = 81.2-0.64+27.6°). Secondary star’s parameters: r2 = 1.11 ± 0.15 RSol and T2 = 2868-283+228 K.
