Spectral type M9.5. L = 0.005 LSol. Member of Taurus-Auriga star-forming region. Age 1-2 Myr.
Joncour et al. (2017) deem KPNO-Tau 4 to be gravitationally bound to binary protostar DG Tauri lying 65,694 AUs away. KPNO-Tau 4 itself would be circumbinary companion in a likely triple system.

Located in Taurus Molecular Cloud, DG Tau is likely part of a multiple system including 2MASS J04270370+2606067 (spT dM?, Kraus et al. 2009) and IRAS 04248+2612 (spT dM) visually located 16.41 and 1055.6 arcseconds away respectively (2,050 and 131,950 AUs at 125 pc). The latter companion star is itself a nearly equal mass binary separated by 25 AUs (cfr. Padgett et al. 1999).
