Spectral type M9.5. L = 0.005 LSol. Member of Taurus-Auriga star-forming region. Age 1-2 Myr.
Joncour et al. (2017) deem KPNO-Tau 4 to be gravitationally bound to binary protostar DG Tauri lying 65,694 AUs away. KPNO-Tau 4 itself would be circumbinary companion in a likely triple system.

Located in Taurus Molecular Cloud, DG Tau is likely part of a triple or quadruple system including companion stars DG Tau B (or 2MASS J04270370+2606067, spT dM) and IRAS 04248+2612 (spT dM) visually located 16.41 and 1055.6 arcseconds away respectively (2,050 and 131,950 AUs at 125 pc).
