Furlan et al. (2017) report a nearly equal companion star 3.5 arcseconds away (6,681 AUs at 1909 pc). Abdul-Masih et al. (2016) indeed labelled KIC 9040849 as eclipsing binary apparently rejecting the exoplanet hypothesis. On the other hand Bienias & Szabó (2025) validate it as candidate exoplanet host.
